The drawing is part of an album containing 406 works, bequeathed in 1928 as part of a larger collection of 93 drawings by the artist. Chinnery, born in London in 1774, established himself as a prominent portraitist in British India before relocating to Macau in 1825, where he remained until his death in 1852.
