Derelict Industry, Dowlais, 1945 is a 1945 watercolor by George Mayer-Marton, a Social Realism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a dark, jagged mountain with a twisted metal structure clinging to its side. Below, a few small figures walk along a winding path, dwarfed by the landscape. The colors are mostly muted grays and browns, with hints of blue in the sky and red near the bottom. The metal looks like old, abandoned scaffolding or machinery, half-buried in the rocky ground. The artist used loose, sketchy brushstrokes to capture the rough texture of the scene. Next, look up George Mayer-Marton to see more of his work.
