The Campo Vaccino is a 1765 by Giuseppe Vasi, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a wide view of a city with old ruins in the foreground. There’s a big archway on the left and a set of columns on the right, both looking ancient. Buildings with flat roofs and small windows fill the middle, and a river runs through the scene. People are scattered around—some walking, some sitting near the ruins. In the distance, hills and more buildings stretch out under a cloudy sky. The artist included tiny labels pointing to different landmarks, like churches and fountains. These notes make it feel like a guided tour of the city. Check out chiaroscuro to see how light and shadow create depth in prints like this.
Giuseppe Vasi (1710–1782) was an Italian artist, born in Corleone.
