Blue-winged Teal is a 1836 ink by Robert Havell Jr., a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This image shows two ducks in mid-flight over a hilly, watery landscape. The duck on top has brown and gray feathers with bright blue wing patches. The one below is darker, with a white patch near its eye and orange-brown spots. Both have detailed markings on their wings and tails. The artist used a mix of colors to show the ducks’ feathers in sharp detail. The background is soft, with faint mountains and a calm sky. Want to see how this style works? Check out engraving.
