Elephant and Clown (L'Elephant et le Clown) is a 1889 by Henri-Charles Guérard, a Impressionism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a clown riding an elephant. The elephant stands on a big ball covered in stars. The clown is upside down, holding onto the elephant’s back with one arm while waving with the other. The elephant’s trunk curls down, and the ball’s stars look like they’re floating. The whole scene feels a bit wobbly, like it’s about to tip over. Next, check out The Cleveland Museum of Art to see this drawing in person.
Henri Charles Guérard (26 April 1846, Paris - 24 March 1897, Paris) was a French painter and printmaker, particularly in etching and lithography.
