H Beard Print Collection is a 1 by John Hoppner, a Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows a woman dressed as Rosalind from Shakespeare’s *As You Like It*. She’s captured in character, with details meant to look like a painting but made as a print. The artist John Hoppner worked in the Romantic style, which often focused on emotion and strong personalities. The print was made in 1832, long after Hoppner’s 1795 death. It was published in New Cross by H. Cook, so it’s a later reproduction of his original idea. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum for more prints like this.
The engraving depicts a three-quarter length profile portrait of a woman in male attire, portraying Lady Jordan as Rosalind from Shakespeare’s *As You Like It*. Published in New Cross by H. Cook, the print is titled *The Portrait of a Lady in Character*. The composition emphasizes a refined, side-facing view of the subject in character costume.
