Entrée du village des Bains is a 1831 ink by Eugène Isabey, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This drawing shows a quiet village nestled between steep mountains. Wooden houses with sloped roofs line a narrow street, some with thatched roofs. A stone cross stands in the center, and a few people walk or stand around. The river runs along the left side, with large rocks and what looks like a water wheel. In the background, a church with a tall steeple rises above the other buildings. The artist used fine lines to capture details like the texture of the roofs and the folds of the people’s clothes. This kind of drawing was made using a technique that lets you print many copies from a single stone. Look up lithography to see how this was made.
