Jan van Beers, son of poet Jan van Beers, was active as both painter and illustrator, contributing pen‑and‑ink sketches to a deluxe edition of his father’s poetry in 1884. The Rochefort portrait entered the collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, where it remains on display as part of the museum’s holdings of Belgian art from the turn of the century.
