About this work

In this painting, a hackney coach is being driven by drunken sailors. The coach is yellow with a black roof and is being pulled by two brown horses. A group of people are standing on the left side of the painting, watching the coach. The background is a hilly landscape with trees and bushes. The coach is being driven recklessly, with one of the sailors holding a whip and another holding onto the coach for dear life. The people watching from the side seem to be enjoying the spectacle. This painting is reminiscent of the work of artist Julius Caesar Ibbetson.
