This is a 19th-century photograph of actress Sophie Croizette. It’s a studio shot meant for fans and collectors. Photography was new then, so portraits like this were traded like visiting cards. Actors had these made in costume or plain clothes. They were cheap to print and easy to share. Collectors kept stacks of them in albums. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum.
