Merimiehenkatu 23
1897
From the collection of Helsinki City Museum
Merimiehenkatu 23 is a 1897 by Rudolf Åkerblom, held at Helsinki City Museum.
This drawing shows two small wooden buildings with steep roofs. One has a tall chimney and a ladder leaning against it. The ground is uneven, with a few scattered rocks and a wheelbarrow. The sky is light blue with soft clouds, and the whole scene looks simple and quiet. The artist carefully drew the rough wood and worn-out look of the buildings. The lines on the roofs and walls suggest how the light hits them. Look up cross-hatching to see how artists create shading with lines.
Rudolf Åkerblom (1849–1925) was an artist, born in Helsinki.
