朝鮮大戦争之図|Illustration of the Great Korean War (Chōsen dai sensō no zu) is a 1882 ink by Kobayashi Kiyochika, a Impressionism work, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows three men in a room with red-and-blue patterned floors. One man stands tall in a suit and top hat, adjusting his gloves. The other two kneel, one holding a walking stick, the other a camera. The walls have carved wood panels, and a sign with Japanese text hangs in the background. The kneeling man with the camera looks like he’s setting up to take a photo. The standing man’s confident pose suggests he’s in charge. The print’s bright colors and bold outlines make it feel lively. Look up Kobayashi Kiyochika to see more of his work.
Kiyochika grew up in Tokyo when the city was turning from samurai streets into a modern capital.
