Triumphal Arch in a Landscape is a 1753 ink by Giuseppe Antonio Landi, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This print shows a grand archway with two sturdy columns and a curved top. Under the arch sits a statue of a robed figure holding a tall staff, standing on a decorated pedestal. Trees frame the sides, and the ground looks rocky with some scattered plants. The curved top of the arch has ornate scrollwork and small vases on either side. The whole scene feels dramatic and balanced, like a stage set. Next, check out the technique: etching, drypoint, aquatint.
