View of the Castle and Cavern at Castleton, Derbyshire is a 1795 watercolor by Harriet Lister, a British Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a rocky hillside with a small castle on top. Below, a dark cave opens at the base of a steep cliff. Trees and bushes grow around the edges, and a winding path leads toward the cave. The sky above is partly cloudy, with soft light hitting the rocks. The artist focused on the rough texture of the cliffs and the quiet feel of the landscape. This was painted in 1795 using watercolor, a lighter and more delicate medium than oil.
