This sketch shows a lone figure standing on a rocky hilltop, overlooking a stormy sea. Below, sheep graze on a grassy slope, and a waterfall crashes in the distance. The sky is dark with swirling clouds, while the land looks rough and uneven. The artist used a rough, textured style to show the wild, untamed nature of the scene. This was a common way to paint during the Romanticism movement. Look up more about Romanticism to see how artists used nature to express big emotions.
