About this work

This untitled print by Haydn Mackey is a colorful proof from a series of woodcuts and linocuts. It shows part of his varied work—magazine covers, posters, and fine prints—all hand-colored after printing. Mackey didn’t use colored ink. He painted in opaque oil on the back of tracing paper, then flipped it onto oatmeal paper. The colors you see came from the reverse side. It never got mass-produced. His prints stayed small and handmade. Look up Haydn Mackey next.
