This painting shows a chaotic battle with soldiers on horseback and foot. Smoke fills the air, and some riders wear bright helmets while others are tangled in the fight. Bodies lie on the ground, and a few soldiers still stand, holding weapons or flags. One odd detail: the fallen soldier in the foreground wears a wide-brimmed hat, which looks out of place in the chaos. The artist used thick brushstrokes to show the rough energy of the scene.
