The Lithograph Dealer is a 1819 by Nicolas Toussaint Charlet, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows three men in a cluttered shop. One stands with his back to us, looking at drawings pinned to the wall. Another leans in, pointing at a small sketch of people riding. The third man sits at a table, flipping through papers and holding a glass bottle. The walls are packed with more drawings—some of horses, some of people in action—and the floor looks dusty. The shop’s name, *Le Marchand de Dessins Lithographiques*, hints this is about selling lithographs, a new printing method. The men’s clothes look old-fashioned, and the sketches are rough but full of life. If you like this scene, check out The Cleveland Museum of Art to see it in person.
Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet was a French painter and printmaker, more especially of military subjects.
