Le char d'Apollon is a 1908 oil by Odilon Redon, held at Fitzwilliam Museum.
This painting depicts a chariot in mid-air, pulled by four horses. The horses are white and appear to be floating above a brown, rocky surface. The chariot itself is brown and has a red object protruding from it. The background of the painting is a mix of greens and blues, with some white clouds scattered throughout. The overall effect is one of movement and energy, as if the chariot and horses are about to take off into the sky. The use of color and composition in this painting is reminiscent of the work of Odilon Redon, who was known for his dreamlike and fantastical scenes.
Born Bertrand-Jean Redon on 20 April 1840 in Bordeaux, the artist adopted the name Odilon from his mother, Marie-Odile.
