Charles I, King of England, as Duke of York is a 1621 ink by Simon van de Passe, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white portrait of a man dressed in fancy 17th-century clothes. His ruffled collar is detailed, and his hair is neatly trimmed. The background is plain, but the border around him has lots of carved-looking text in Latin and English. The text calls him "Prince Charles" and lists his titles like "Duke of Cornwall." His serious expression and the careful lines suggest this was made to show his importance. Want to know more about how this was made? Look up engraving.
