Shield of Richard Sackville, 3rd Earl of Dorset [right half] is a 1621 ink by Simon van de Passe, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white engraving of a fancy shield with two sides. One side shows a man in armor holding a sword, standing on a rock. The other side has a lion standing on a cloud, with a crown above it. Around the shield are curly decorations and Latin words. The shield belongs to Richard Sackville, the 3rd Earl of Dorset, but only half of it is shown here. The artist used fine lines to create shadows and details, making it look three-dimensional.
