Untitled is a 1891 oil by Paul Signac, a Impressionism work, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This painting shows a row of small boats floating on calm water. The sky glows with warm orange and yellow, while the water below is made of tiny blue dots. The boats have tall masts and look still, like they’re barely moving. The brushstrokes are short and quick, almost like little dots of color. This was a new way to paint light and movement back then. Try looking up Pointillism next—it’s the technique of using dots to build up color.
Paul Victor Jules Signac ( seen-YAHK, French: ; 11 November 1863 – 15 August 1935) was a French Neo-Impressionist painter who, with Georges Seurat, helped develop the artistic technique Pointillism.
