This watercolour shows grapes and peaches in a quiet, close-up style. It’s a student piece by Beatrix Potter from 1883, before she wrote Peter Rabbit. The work won her an “Excellent” on her art exam that year. Potter taught herself by copying nature and old masters. She later said her lack of formal training kept her style fresh.
