About this work

This painting shows a big sailing ship with three tall masts in calm water. The ship has lots of ropes and sails, and a small boat is near it. In the background, you can see a few other ships and a hazy coastline. The artist used soft colors and light brushstrokes to make the scene feel peaceful. The water looks smooth, and the sky is pale, almost like a foggy day. If you like this style, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like it.
