This sketch shows a quiet country road winding through rolling hills. A fence runs along the left side, with a few trees and bushes scattered around. The ground looks uneven, with patches of grass and dirt. In the distance, a few buildings peek out near the horizon. The artist used quick, loose lines to suggest movement and light. The ink is layered in some spots, making shadows deeper. This style was common in sketches made outdoors. Check out the technique: cross-hatching for more on how artists build shading with lines.
