About this work

This sketch shows a woman sitting sideways on a stool, her back to us. She wears a loose, draped dress with thick folds, and her hair is pulled back. One foot rests on the floor, while the other dangles slightly off the stool. The lines are scratchy and dark, making the fabric look textured. The artist used quick, sketchy strokes to show movement in the fabric. This style was common in the 1600s for fast studies or prints. Next, check out Baroque to see how artists used drama and movement in their work.
