Portrait of an Old Lady

About this work

This is a black-and-white print of a serious-looking person wearing old-fashioned clothes. They have a big white collar and a dark coat with a chain across the front. Their hair is covered by a cap, and they’re looking straight ahead. The print was made in the 1700s, but it copies a painting by Rubens. Notice how the shadows make the face stand out sharply. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this print in person.
