Italian Prince before Margaret of Austria is a 1612 ink by Antonio Tempesta, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This picture shows a group of men in old-fashioned clothes. They’re standing on a set of stairs and in front of a striped curtain. One man in the center holds a child, while others talk or gesture. The scene looks busy but calm. The artist used a sharp tool to scratch lines into the paper, a method called etching. This made the image look detailed yet still a little rough. Next, check out technique: etching.
Antonio Tempesta, also called il Tempestino (1555 – 5 August 1630), was an Italian painter and engraver, whose art acted as a point of connection between Baroque Rome and the culture of Antwerp.
