Portrait of a Man is a 1850 ink by Unknown 19th Century, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a black-and-white engraving of a man with a serious face and a full beard. He’s wearing a ruffled collar and a dark, high-necked shirt. Above his head, a banner reads *Virtutis Opas* in Latin letters, and two small cherubs hold up a crown of leaves behind him. The text below the portrait is in French and seems to praise the man’s wisdom. The whole image looks carefully carved, with lots of fine lines and shading.
