About this work

This print shows a busy garden scene with people walking and chatting. On the left, two men in hats handle branches with pink flowers. A fence and a small bridge cross a pond. In the background, three women in long robes walk toward a fence, while bare trees and distant hills fill the rest of the view. The colors are soft—pinks, greens, and earthy browns—with bold black outlines. Notice the red sign on the left with Japanese writing—it’s the only text in the scene. The artist used flat colors and simple shapes to pack lots of activity into one small space. Look up Utagawa Hiroshige next to see how he made everyday scenes feel alive.
