日本湊尽 相州浦賀|Uraga Harbor is a 1837 ink by Utagawa Hiroshige, a Romanticism work, depicting Boat, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows a snowy harbor scene. Tall pine trees line the shore, their branches heavy with snow. Small boats sit docked in the water, which is a deep blue. Buildings with thatched roofs cluster near the water’s edge, and mountains loom in the background under a dark, starry sky. Notice how the artist used simple lines and flat colors to create depth. The snow on the trees and ground looks real, even though it’s just ink and paper. Look up Utagawa Hiroshige next to see more of his work.
Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川 広重) or Andō Hiroshige (安藤 広重), born Andō Tokutarō (安藤 徳太郎; 1797 – 12 October 1858), was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition.
