Large Sheds is a 1612 ink by Claes Jansz Visscher, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white drawing shows two big wooden buildings with steep, thatched roofs. One has a tall, narrow shape, the other is wider with a small porch. A few trees and bushes are scattered around, and the ground looks muddy near a body of water. Two small figures stand near the buildings—one holding a stick, the other bent over. The artist used lines to show texture, like the rough thatch and wooden walls. This style was common in early 1600s prints. Next, check out the technique: etching to see how artists like this made detailed prints.
Claes Janszoon Visscher (1587 – 19 June 1652) was a Dutch Golden Age draughtsman, engraver, mapmaker, and publisher.
