About

The Hamburger Künstlerverein, founded in Hamburg in 1832, was the principal professional association for visual artists in the city throughout the nineteenth century. It organised regular exhibitions and social gatherings, helping to sustain a distinct Hamburg artistic identity at a time when the city's art scene was less internationally prominent than Berlin or Düsseldorf. The Verein persisted well into the twentieth century.
