About

The Munich Secession (Münchner Secession) was founded in 1892 by a breakaway group of artists, including Franz von Stuck and Fritz von Uhde, who rejected the conservative programme of the Munich Artists' Cooperative. The earliest of the German-speaking secessionist movements, it hosted international exhibitions that introduced Impressionist and Symbolist work to German audiences, directly inspiring the Vienna and Berlin secessions of 1897–1898.
