Master of Cubélls
Spanish
Master of Cubélls is a Spanish Gothic painting painter. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Master of Cubélls is the conventional name given to an anonymous Catalan painter active roughly between 1374 and 1406, during the International Gothic period in the Crown of Aragon. The name derives from a retable associated with Cubells, in present-day Catalonia, Spain. Like other anonymous masters identified by a key work, he is known only through paintings grouped by style.
His surviving production consists chiefly of altarpieces, or retables, executed in tempera and gold on wood panel, depicting religious narratives and saints in the decorative, courtly manner characteristic of Catalan Gothic panel painting.
