Jaume Serra

Jaume Serra is a Gothic painting painter. 7 works are cataloged here, principally at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, most of them tempera paintings.

Jaume Serra was a Catalan painter active in Barcelona during the second half of the fourteenth century, dying around 1395. He was one of the leading masters of Catalan Gothic painting and headed a productive workshop together with his brothers, among them Pere Serra. The workshop produced numerous altarpieces, or retables, in an Italianate Gothic style shaped by Tuscan and Sienese Trecento models, marked by gilded grounds, narrative panels, and refined figures.

Jaume Serra's work helped introduce Italian compositional ideas into the Crown of Aragon and influenced the following generation of Catalan painters.
