Building of the Ark is a 1704 by Alessandro Magnasco, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a chaotic scene of people working on a large wooden structure. The figures are rough and angular, with sharp lines and dark shadows. Some are climbing, others are hammering, and the whole thing looks half-finished, like a mess of planks and beams. The artist left big chunks of the background empty, almost like they’re still figuring it out. The figures’ faces are simple, with heavy outlines and little detail.
