Courtyard of a temple is a 1690 oil by Arent de Gelder, a Dutch Golden Age work, held at Mauritshuis.
This painting shows a courtyard of a temple. There are many people standing around, some in the shadows and others in the light. The walls are made of large stone blocks. The people are all dressed in old-fashioned clothing, and some of them are wearing hats or headscarves. There's a big piece of fabric hanging from the ceiling, which adds to the sense of depth in the painting. Aert de Gelder (Dutch: ; October 26, 1645 – August 27, 1727) was a Dutch painter, the only Dutch artist to paint in the tradition of Rembrandt's late style into the 18th century.
