About this work

This painting is split into three uneven sections. The top is a messy gray and white shape with a dark, tangled figure inside—like a shipwreck or a pile of clothes. The middle has bold yellow stripes and two small black-and-white drawings: one looks like a person holding a bucket, the other a simple stick figure. The bottom is a bright red grid with a yellow oval and a faint orange shape that could be a face or a lamp. The gray top section looks almost like a torn piece of paper stuck on. The red grid below feels like a wall or floor, but the yellow oval is oddly out of place. Try looking up impasto to see how thick paint like this is used.
