Danger Passed (Danger passe) is a 1900 ink by Paul-Albert Besnard, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a man in a hat walking away, his coat flapping behind him. Beside him, a small skull peeks out from the ground, half-hidden. The lines are loose and fast, like quick scribbles—some sharp, some wavy—giving everything a sense of movement. The skull might look odd next to the walking man, but it’s just one small detail in a sketch full of energy. The artist used a mix of dark lines and light paper to create depth, almost like a quick sketch that didn’t need to be perfect. Next, check out how this was made using etching.
Paul-Albert Besnard (1849–1934) was a French artist, born in 7th arrondissement of Paris.
