La Cure de Cucagnan is a 1879 ink by Félix-Hilaire Buhot, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a dark, crowded church scene with a group of people gathered around a bed. Above them, ghostly figures float in the air, holding what looks like a glowing cross. Outside the church, smaller scenes show people praying at graves and climbing stairs. The artist used shading to create depth, making the church interior feel heavy and mysterious. The floating figures might represent spirits or divine intervention, which was common in Romantic-era art. Next, check out etching, drypoint, aquatint to see how this print was made.
Félix-Hilaire Buhot (1847–1898) was a French artist, born in Valognes.
