About this work

This black-and-white print shows two figures in a rocky, leafy landscape. One is a robed man kneeling on the ground, his head bowed and hands clasped. The other is a winged figure hovering above him, playing a small instrument—maybe a harp or lyre—while holding a branch. The lines are tight and detailed, with shadows built up through tiny parallel marks. The kneeling man looks like he’s in prayer or deep thought, while the angel seems to be offering comfort through music. This kind of scene was common in religious art of the time, showing faith and divine help. This is made using engraving, a technique where the artist etches lines into a metal plate.
