Cottage at East Bergholt is a 1796 by John Constable, a Romanticism work, depicting cottage, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This is a quick sketch Constable made in 1796 of a simple cottage in his home village. It’s an early drawing, done when he wasn’t yet sure he’d be an artist. The sheet holds two tiny sketches side by side. The drawing is light and a little unsure—typical of his first tries. It shows how he started noticing little details before his famous landscapes.
