About this work

This painting shows a small farmhouse in the Dutch countryside. The walls are crooked and the roof sags. A wooden fence leans near the door. The artist used soft light to make the scene feel calm. Bloemaert often drew these quiet country scenes. He taught many artists who later painted realistic details. Look for more drawings by Bloemaert at The Cleveland Museum of Art.
