Fan Design [verso] is a 1906 graphite by Lovis Corinth, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a woman holding a child, sitting inside a round frame. Around them are swirling lines and small figures, like dancers or angels. The background has a half-circle shape with loose, sketchy drawings of flowers and leaves. The paper is green, and the artist used light pencil strokes to keep it loose and quick. The date "1906" is written in the corner, but it’s not fully clear. Next, check out Corinth, Lovis to see more of his playful, sketchy style.
Lovis Corinth was a German artist and writer whose mature work as a painter and printmaker realized a synthesis of impressionism and expressionism.
