The Hanging of Levallois-Perret is a 1880 by Félicien Rops, a Impressionism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a dark, shadowy room with a woman standing near a window. She’s dressed in a long, loose outfit, holding a small object in one hand. The light comes through the window, making her face half-lit and half-in-shadow. Behind her, a table and shelves are barely visible in the dim space. The artist used deep contrasts between light and dark to create mood. Notice how the shadows make the room feel heavy and mysterious. If you like this style, look up chiaroscuro.
Félicien Victor Joseph Rops (French: ; 7 July 1833 – 23 August 1898) was a Belgian artist associated with Symbolism, Decadence, and the Parisian fin de siècle, and was a member of the Les XX group.
