a) L'Englise de leurs peres (recto); b) Man with Cigarette (verso) is a 1916 ink by Jean-Louis Forain, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a man in a hat pointing upward at something. Three kids stand nearby, looking up too. The man wears a long coat and holds a cigarette. The background has a rough wall and a few faint lines. The artist used quick, sketchy lines to show movement and focus. The kids’ faces are simple, almost like doodles. Check out Forain, Jean-Louis—he made lots of scenes like this.
Jean-Louis Forain (French pronunciation: ; 23 October 1852 – 11 July 1931) was a French Impressionist painter and printmaker, working in media including oils, watercolour, pastel, etching and lithograph.
