The Schule Skailin' is a 1846 oil by George Harvey, a Hudson River School Movement work, held at National Galleries Scotland.
This painting shows a dimly lit room with a group of children gathered around a table. The children are dressed in simple clothing, and some of them are holding books or papers. The room is sparse, with only a few pieces of furniture visible. A window on the right side of the room lets in a sliver of light, illuminating the faces of the children. The overall atmosphere is one of quiet concentration, as if the children are engaged in a lesson or activity. The artist's use of chiaroscuro creates a sense of depth and dimensionality in the painting.
Sir George Frederick Harvey (1 February 1806 – 22 January 1876) was a Scottish painter and President of the Royal Scottish Academy.
