This painting shows an older man sitting on a low ledge in a colorful room. He’s wearing a striped turban, a long blue robe, and red slippers, holding a long stick. Behind him, the walls are covered in patterned tiles and Arabic script, while a small table beside him holds a teapot and cups. The artist focused on the play of light and shadow to show his wrinkles and the texture of his clothes. This style was common in late 19th-century European travel paintings of the Middle East. Look up Haag, Carl (R.W.S) next to see more of his work.
