Passion Set: Descent from the Cross is a 1597 by Jacob de Gheyn II, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This etching shows a busy scene of people carrying a cross and a body wrapped in cloth. A woman kneels in the foreground, looking sad, while others climb a ladder or hold tools. The background has a rocky hill and a distant town. Notice the way the artist uses light and shadow to make the figures stand out against the dark background. This is a common trick in older prints. Look up chiaroscuro to learn more about this technique.
Jacob de Gheyn II was a Dutch painter and engraver, whose work shows the transition from Northern Mannerism to Dutch realism over the course of his career.
